Veganism is gaining popularity by the day. Many people have adopted the vegan lifestyle for different reasons. Some people do it to stay eco-friendly, some do it for health reasons, and some do it just for the challenge. For whichever reason you might be thinking of becoming a vegan, here are 3 reasons as to why veganism is beneficial for you.
1. Weight Loss
A vegan diet will help you reduce your calories, which will encourage you to eat healthier.
2. Reduced Risk of Heart Disease and Strokes
Meat contains a lot of Cholesterol and saturated fats, removing it from your diet can reduce the risk of heart diseases and strokes, and can also lower your blood pressure.
3. Increase in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Dairy farms contribute hugely to the greenhouse gas emissions, and aren’t very sustainable. Removing dairy from your diet will help in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.

I’m sorry for being so inactive, I was on summer break :D. School starts in 3 weeks and I’m so not ready, I’m going to year 11 and my GCSEs are in a year. Yes, it’s stressful. Today I thought I’d list some common mistakes almost every student does before the first day (I’m guilty of almost all of these lol), and how to avoid them. I found these hacks on youtube and pinterest, and came up with some myself over the last few years.
Overloading yourself with too much work.
Yes, I know, it’s the first day of school and you feel very productive. I always do this. I buy new textbooks and folders, and can’t wait to use them. Or I download a productivity app for the first time and can’t wait for my to do list to overflow. If this is you, then try to avoid this. As exciting as it is, if you add too many things to your to do list, you’re gonna feel so overwhelmed, which will really put off your mood. Your productive mood will die down, and you’re not gonna show any interest in your homework for the next 2 weeks. So only add the essentials to your to do list, the list will get bigger (when you wouldn’t want it to :p)
Don’t rush with buying school supplies.
You might be thinking “The only thing I look forward to in back to school season is buying school supplies!” Same. But here’s what might happen. You’re gonna show up on the first day of school with so many cute and aesthetic notebooks, an awesome pencil case, and all the stationery that you could possibly get, only for the teacher to say that you didn’t need any of that for the first day (which kinda sucks). Or your teacher will give you a set of books to buy, which means you’ll have to go to the store again. This always used to happen to me. So keep the school supplies shopping for the 2nd or the 3rd day, so that you don’t end up wasting money on stuff you wouldn’t need.
Always be prepared.
First impression matters a lot. And when I say a lot I mean A LOT. You could either be the teacher’s most or least favourite student, and you don’t want to be the latter do you? Don’t forget to bring your folder/book, always listen in class, DON’T talk to your friends in class (I know, you’re seeing them after a loooong time, or you might say “They started talking to me and it would be rude not to reply”, or I might seem uncool if I don’t act rebellious or if I do my homework). Trust me, you’re not going to remember what that person said, but you are going to remember your grades in the long term. Labelling in school is very common. Although studying a lot and not spending time with friends might make you seem “uncool”, you’re not going to remember it. On results day, you would see that all your hardwork would have paid off, which would make you feel so happy and proud of yourself.
Being vegan can be hard at times, but once you know the tips and tricks, it’s not as hard as you think. I used to live in India, where I met 3 kinds of people. Some people would actually understand and help you out, some would say “yeah sure, I got you” and forget, and some people wouldn’t even know what the word vegan was, or confuse it with vegetarian. For a lot of you, that would be fine, you could consider it your cheat day 😅 but I am severely allergic to dairy and NEED to be vegan not vegetarian. After many years of being vegan, here are a few tips that will definitely help you vegan newbies to enjoy this challenge 😀
NEVER EVER feel embarrassed to ask for vegan food, re iterate the fact that you are vegan so they don’t forget (don’t do it way too much though lol), and to explain what vegan means if needed. My parents always told me this, but somehow still there was this feeling somewhere inside me that people would judge me/laugh at me. I know, that’s ridiculous, but allergies are not even half as common as they are in the USA or the UK. People are never gonna say “I’m sorry, we don’t have anything for you too eat.” They will definitely arrange something for you. That is the first and the most important step to becoming vegan 🙂 and on a side note, listen to your parents 😝
Know what you can and cannot eat. This is easy, and comes with experience. here are some vegan snacks that you’ll find everywhere.
Plain nachos and salsa
French fries
Fizzy drinks (coke, fanta etc.)
Potato wedges
Plain salted potato chips
Here’s some stuff to definitely avoid
Chocolate
Cake 😦
Anything white (milk, cream, cheese etc.)
Pizza
Anything with meat (no prizes for guessing that 😜)
I know, it sounds impossible. But remember, it’s really not. Sure, it can be hard in the beginning, but trust me, it’s all worth it 🙂

When you hear the word “vegan”, the first thing that comes to mind to most people are fruits and vegetables. Sure, they are healthy, but too much of anything isn’t good. You need a balance of everything, carbs, protein, vitamins, minerals and fats. Here are a few tips to include all the food groups, in order to eat a balanced diet.
Carbohydrates
Some carbohydrate rich food include rice, pasta, bread and sweets. Although too much sugar is bad, no sugar at all can also be harmful. Everything must be consumed in moderation.
Protein
Protein is an essential part of your diet. It helps repair tissues, and is the building blocks of bones, muscles, cartilages etc. Protien rich food include beans and legumes, seeds and nuts, tofu etc. You can also add some vegan protein powder to your smoothies. They’re healthy, tasty , and full of goodness.
Vitamins and Minerals
Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals. Non dairy milk is rich in calcium, which is essential for strong bones. So don’t forget to eat your 5 a day 🙂
Fats
Fats are very important, they give you energy and support cell growth. Avocados are rich in good fat, and so are nuts. You can also include some vegan cheese and vegan butter to your diet, to get the daily dose of fat you need. But remember, too much fat isn’t good.
